Diabetes and endocrine disorders often affect multiple different organ systems and, consequently, diabetologists and endocrinologists enjoy close working relationships with clinicians in many diverse specialties. This year's RCPE diabetes symposium (October 7th) isbased around these different specialists. This symposium will therefore be of interest to SpRs and StrR of all seniority.

The man power survey presented at the Consultant and SpR session at DUK highlighted that in the UK in 2010, 2011 and 2012 there will be 85, 83 and 74 trainees attaining their CCT respectively. However there are only 4, 16 and 23 consultants will be approaching retirement age of 65 years in the same respective years. This is alarming given that previous attempts to expand consultant numbers and restrict trainee numbers have been unsuccessful. Rowan Hillson is concerned about this consultant job shortage and has approached the YDF to help her address this on a national scale.
