The goal of the Excellence in Diabetes programme for Specialist Registrars is to support training and research that will positively contribute to the future delivery of effective and forward-looking diabetes services. The meeting in Birmingham (15-16th July) features an SpR research award competition along with lectures and workshops on a range of topics.

The sanofi aventis Awards for Excellence in Diabetes Research have been developed to provide funding that will enable successful applicants to carry out high quality, diabetes-related research projects.

Entries for these Awards should be in the form of a short abstract of your proposed research idea and will be judged on the basis of scientific merit, project design and relevance to clinical practice in diabetes. All applications will be judged anonymously by an independent panel compromising of members of the faculty for the second annual meeting of the Excellence in Diabetes programme, including Professor Jiten Vora and Dr Marc Evans.An award of £10,000 will be granted to the winner and £5,000 will be awarded to each of the two runners up.

There are specific programs for new consultants and SpRs. SpR program includes talks by Prof. Stephen Gough, Prof. Cliff Bailey, Dr. Marc Evans,Dr. Carol Griffiths as well as personal development and leadership workshops.
