YDEF Annual Day 7th March 2017
The YDEF Annual Day brings over a hundred specialist registrars and young consultants from across the UK on the eve of Diabetes UK Annual Processional Conference to attend an excellent, free day of lectures and workshops.
What is it?
YDEF Day is a whole day of specialist workshops and plenaries, finishing with a lively debate, providing an excellent educational and networking opportunity. The event is the largest gathering of diabetes trainees and young consultants and is FREE of cost to attend. As well as meals and refreshments, we also organise a conference dinner, also provided to you FREE of cost.
This year we have invited a few prominent people with Type 1 Diabetes to run the afternoon workshops. They will share their experiences of living with Diabetes and provide us with an invaluable learning experience.
We will also be highlighting the abstracts/posters from fellow SpRs, particularly for those that cannot attend the rest of the meeting. We intend to display these during the day (before you then need to take them to the main conference). There will be a £100 for the best poster.

When is the next event?
The YDEF Annual Day is held on the eve of Diabetes UK Professional Conference. The next day will be in Manchester on the 7th March 2017.
How do I register?
We also ask for £100 cheque deposit, which will only be cashed in the event of non-attendance. Cheques need to be sent to:
YDEF Day 2017
Red Hot Irons Ltd.
Unit 2, Warwick House
Cheques should be payable to Diabetes UK. Your place will not be guaranteed until the cheque deposit is received. Once your registration is submitted, you will receive a confirmatory email - please note that details won't be available from Elise until after 6th January. We also ask that you choose which workshops you would like to attend. Whilst we try our best to ensure that everyone gets their first choice workshop, please be aware that on occasions this may not be possible.
Accommodation and meals
Your registration includes all your meals and refreshments for the YDEF day, including the conference dinner. If you are unable to stay for dinner, please do let us know in advance. If you are allocated a slot and do not attend, we may not be in a position to refund your deposit.
Visit Manchester are arranging the accommodation for the main DUK conference and have negotiated with 4 hotels to add a Monday night to their room blocks. Hence delegates can book at any of these hotels if they want the Monday night. If they only need Tue onwards they can book any of the DUK hotels on offer.
The four hotels that have agreed to add some rooms on for the Monday night are:
· Mercure Manchester Piccadilly, 4*, £135 per night
· Novotel Manchester Centre, 4*, £124.50 per night
· The Townhouse Hotel Manchester, 4*, £100.00 per night
· The Portland Hotel, 3*, £95 per night
All are within 10-15 minutes walk of Manchester Central.
The accommodation booking site the delegates would use is the same one that is on the Diabetes UK Professional Conference 2017 website and the link is https://resweb.passkey.com/go/DiabetesUK2017 . This site is open until 7th February so bookings will need to be made by this date, and as early as possible if delegates want specific hotels.
Diabetes UK APC Registration
As always, you have to register separately for Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference. This can be done through the Diabetes UK website. We have in the past had an agreement from Lilly that a minimum of 50 places will be available for the main Diabetes UK APC - these will be administered by Lilly and will be available on a first come first serve basis. Details including who to contact will be in the email sent upon registration.
The dress-code is smart casual.
YDEF Day 2017 Lead Organiser is Adam Nicholls.
YDEF Day Sponsors
We are grateful to our pharmaceutical industry partners for their generous support over the past ten years and the logistic support from DUK. The YDEF Day has been supported by Sanofi, Abbott and Astra Zeneca who have provided one speaker for the agenda on a subject of their choice. They have had no other input into the arrangements for the meeting. Without pharma support, we wouldn't be able to run these days, so do show your appreciation and visit their stand.
